The Belfast Aikikai officially opened its doors on Tuesday April 6th, 2010
The Belfast Aikikai was founded in March 2010 by Judith McSpadden, 1st Dan Aikikai. It is affiliated to the Irish Aikikai Aikido under the technical direction of Cyril Lagrasta, 4th Dan Aikikai. All yudansha grading examinations are taking place under the direction of Philippe Gouttard, 6th Dan Aikikai. Grades are recognised by the Aikikai headquarters in Tokyo upon recommendation from Christian Tissier Shihan, 7th Dan Aikikai.
Seminars are regularly held in Belfast and Dublin with high ranking instructors from abroad including Philippe Gouttard 6th Dan, Christian Tissier 7th Dan, Luc Mathevet 6th Dan and Marc Bachraty 5th Dan. Regular in-house seminars are also scheduled four times a year with Dublin Aikikai head instructor Cyril Lagrasta, 4th Dan Aikikai. Members of the Belfast Aikikai often travel to Europe for seminars and Aikido summer camps.
